This book thoroughly impressed me. Both of the characters, Marnie and Raven had so much depth and their interactions were beautifully written
This book revolves around Marnie who moves to a new town with a much older husband Isake who shockingly dies after falling from their roof. She befriends the “town lunatic”, Raven and after, she realises that he is deaf. She shows her kindness by devising a way to communicate to him through hand signals.
This story is set during the Middle Ages where superstition ran wild. This story was so beautiful, I never wanted to stop. Raven and Marnie’s love was strong and far from the cliche YA romance that is normally written, this was refreshing and I was yearning for a sequel.. Father Brannan was also a key character, there were times where I disliked him, especially during the trail but overall, Marnie and Raven relied on his generosity and I couldn’t help but like him, too.
Marnie’s headstrong personality and Raven’s gentleness seemed to compliment each other and I can’t tell you how much GOOD this book was. This book was an exploration on their love and how they were both persecuted by others for being different.
Please read it and tell me what you think, you won’t be disappointed and you might actually cry.
