The Mime Order (Bone Season #2)
by Samantha Shannon
Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London…
As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city’s gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.
Samantha Shannon was born and raised in West London. From 2010 to 2013 she studied English Language and Literature at St Anne’s College, Oxford, where she specialised in Emily Dickinson and Principles of Film Criticism.
In 2012 she signed a book deal with Bloomsbury Publishing to publish the first three books in a seven-book series, beginning with The Bone Season. Film rights to the novel were optioned by Andy Serkis’s London-based production company The Imaginarium Studios in 2012, and acquired by Twentieth Century Fox and Chernin Studios in October 2013.The Bone Season has been translated into twenty-nine languages. Its first sequel, The Mime Order, will hit shelves on 27 January 2015.
Before we dive in:
I’m supposed to be writing an English essay that was due yesterday. Shhh………
FANTASTIC book with excellent world and plot building. If you thought Bone Season was intriguing and intense, this is just as amazing.
In Bone Season, you kind of had this on-going plot-twists and action going on. It was a continual cycle of your heart seizing up then relaxing, seizing then relaxing and…..you get the picture. In The Mime Order, the action is still there but it’s much deeper. In this one, we have a build up of Paige wandering Scion London and discovering hidden secrets connected to the Rephaite world. We have a much more in depth, question- answering and plot-discovering storyline. And when all the build up and different plot-twists comes together, BOOM!!!!!
All throughout the book, I was so captivated by Ms Shannon’s world building. In the Mime Order, we discover more of the intricasy and order of the Syndicate. And through this, we also find out about it’s corruption and the link between those evil plans and the clairvoyants that were shipped off to the Rephaite place.
Paige is even more of an awesome character in this book. I don’t how she manages to wind through the busy streets of Scion London without being caught when her face is pretty much plastered everywhere. She is brilliant with her plans on ensuring that the Syndicate is rid of the the corrupt Mime Lords and that story of the Rephaite’s are known throughout Scion London.
As you can see, I’m trying very hard not to spoil anything which is why I’m being very vague. I’m sorry, okay!? It’s an art I haven’t mastered yet!
But I can ensure all of you that Warden is in this book. You don’t have to worry your pretty little heads that he isn’t a goner. You can still read about his incredible self.
All in all, an amazing sequel with even better character and plot building. You’ll be infatuated from the beginning with Paige’s journey through Scion London, discovering more sneaky plots, fighting the baddies whilst discovering the incredible power of pen and paper.
